Amazon is an American e-commerce company dedicated to selling products online. It began by selling books and now has become one of the largest Internet companies with all kinds of products on their lists. It is the largest retailer in the U.S. and one of the most popular Internet sites, as preferred shopping destination. Amazon also owns Alexa, A9.com and IMDb.

History

Amazon was created as "Cadabra.com" in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. Jeff had worked as a programmer on Wall Street and its goal was to create a competitive shop using the Internet. In 1995, he launched his company, based in Seattle, Washington, and became the first online bookstore. The name "Cadabra" was changed soon, sound like "Cadaver" and was given the name Amazon. During its early years, the company did not change in its strategy so much, and grew slowly, which caused the complaint of many of its investors, but profits came each year and every time are much bigger. In 1999, Jeff Bezos was named Person of the Year by Time magazine. Later on, Amazon has expanded, it acquired other companies, and launched their own products. Today, it sells all kinds of products and is one of the largest companies in the world.

The first thing that attracts Amazon is the wide variety of products offered. On the site you can find books, music, sporting goods, home, garden, computer, clothes, food, jewellery, beauty products, toys and in short, everything you need. So Amazon is considered as a virtual shopping mall, where people can explore to find what they want. What makes Amazon special is its effort to personalize the service provided to the each user. The person is registered on the site with its personal details and once done that, no matter how experienced it has online as Amazon assists the user as if a sales staff is ready to help those in need it. Amazon do the best to know the customer and give appropriate follow-up. Therefore, in addition, is based on past experience to recommend purchase to the user when the next time visit the place.
