Linden labs

Description

Linden Labs is an internet computing company based in the United States. Linden labs employ over 330 people from around the globe and has made extensive use of the internet in order to facilitate collaborative work between them. Linden Labs headquarters are in San fransisco, but its employees are spread across the USA, Europe, and Asia.

The company was founded by Phillip Rosedale in 1999 with the intention of creating an exciting new online sharing experience which has come to be known as ‘Second Life’. Linden labs launched ‘Second life’ on June 23, 2003. ‘Second life’ is a virtual world community created by the users themselves. Linden labs has marketed ‘Second life’ as:

“a platform which offers the tools for business, educators, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to develop a virtual presence.”

‘Second life’ user accounts are free and can be set up at [http://www.secondlife.com] .Although Linden labs retains the right to charge a fee for the use of multiple accounts by single users. There is also a premium account available at a cost of $9.95 per month. This gives the user increased access to technical support, and pays L$300 a week into the users avatar account. L$ being the curency used in the ‘Second life’ world.
