Definition and Company Information

Lionhead Studios (or Microsoft Game Studios) is considered to be one of the most innovative game developers. It was founded in 1997 by Peter Molyneux. Molyneux previously founded Bullfrog, which he sold in 1995. In 1997 he left Bullfrog and formed Lionhead Studios with three people.

The company has a unique way of developing games in creative and “family style environment “. It is proven by the amount of games developed and released, that their system is working extremely well (the output is greater than in any other average development house).

The company is based in Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom. In April 2006 the company was acquired by Microsoft Game Studios in order to strengthen Lionhead's creativeness and stability.

Games Developed

First game of Lionhead Studio was released in late March 2001. The game was called Black & White and their sales reached over two million. In autumn 2004 Lionhead released their second game called Fable (Xbox). Some of their biggest releases include Black & White 2 and The Movies which they have released as independent studio.
