Viral Marketing

Viral Marketing a marketing technique that consists of using social networking sites and websites to produce awareness in brands and to achieve marketing objectives such as products sales. Viral Marketing is mainly used in social networking sites as they target these groups of people with advertisements and create viral marketing programs to market to certain individuals.

(Wilson, 2005) suggests that ‘Viral marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth in the message's exposure and influence’

Off the Internet, viral marketing has been referred to as "word-of-mouth," "creating a buzz," "leveraging the media," "network marketing." Wilson (2005)
